Hyderabad The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)is organising a three-day IGBC Green Property Show at Hitex in Hyderabad from July 28, which will showcase the benefits of green buildings to the society.

“We conceived the idea of a Green Property Show, which is the first-of-its kind event, with the primary objective to sensitize and motivate all prospective property buyers to invest in a greener future by choosing IGBC certified andpre-certified green projects over conventional buildings for the immense benefits such projects offer,” C Shekar Reddy, Chairman, Hyderabad Chapter of IGBC, told Bizz Buzz. Reddy is also Chairman of CII Telangana.

According to him, there are tangible and intangible benefits if people buy properties in green projects or construct their buildings with green products.

“The tangible benefits of green buildings include reduced maintenance costs, energy and water consumption while intangible benefits are improved occupants’ wellbeing and healthier lifestyle,” he said.

The three-day event will have on display IGBC green certified andpre-certified projects, products, technologies & services. It will feature green residential and commercial properties, building products and services. More than 75 companies will put their properties, products and services on display at the property show which will spread over 4,200 square metres of space. The Telangana government is the Partner State for the event.

“Telangana has made significant contributionsto the cause of green buildings and will soon emerge as a role model for other States. As on date, more than 700 projects in Telangana are going green with IGBC, amounting to about 1.12 billion sft of green building footprint,” Reddy said.

He however underlined the need for propagating the cause of green buildings in a big way. “Still, green buildings account for a small portion of total buildings being constructed in the country. To change this, there is an immediate need to create awareness,” he said.
